Two Similar Rings in a Renaissance Style

These two rings use a type of setting no longer much seen, perhaps because they are fiddly to make and to set. You’ll have to click on the images to see them at a decent size.

The last two pictures show something interesting about iolite: it is blue when seen in one direction, and yellowish when seen in another – a property called pleochroism.
